'Tribal Togetherness in New York' heißt Sie willkommen.
Schon am 9. Mai, also zwei Tage vor den großen New York Events, laden wir Sie zur Eröffnung unserer dritten Gruppenausstellung in die 'Art for Eternity Gallery' ein.
Mit Howard Nowes, Dave DeRoche, Sebastian Fernandez, David Zemanek - und in diesem Jahr erstmals auch mit Jo de Buck - präsentieren wir Ihnen bedeutende Kultobjekte aus Afrika, Ozeanien und Altamerika.
Die Ausstellung beginnt um 14.00 Uhr (Ortszeit) in den Räumen der Galerie, 303 East 81st Street, und dauert bis einschließlich Montag, 14. Mai.
Art for Eternity director, Howard Nowes, is looking forward to a show in his neck of the woods with his esteemed colleagues. Recent notable acquisitions being shown at Tribal Togetherness from Art for Eternity will include an Important Pre Columbian Zapotec Urn; fine and large quality ceramic from Ancient West México’s Colima, Jalisco and Nayarit. We also recently acquired a lovely Costa Rican carved Stone Metate in the form of a Jaguar, Guanacaste/Nicoya region. And currently we are fortunate to still have in stock some lovely Peruvian textiles, Mexican Stonework and Maya Ceramics.
Dave DeRoche, who specializes in representing old private collections, just acquired a delightful collection of African pipes and a major collection of American Indian pipes - including Haida, Mississippian and other Mound Builders, Plains catlinite, Eskimo, and more - from an important old private collection. These pipes have never been seen by tribal art aficionados. They will make two spectacular displays in our antique glass cases.
Dave DeRoche's other recent acquisitions include African, Oceanic, and Pre-Columbian figures (including Mezcalas) and another knockout display, themed MASKS. Dave's MASKS show includes very special New Guinea, Kifwebe, Lega, Indonesian, Dan, and Dogon examples; the two biggest just left the home of the late great painter Nathan Oliveira.
The Fernandez Leventhal Gallery, located in the heart of Murray Hill in New York City, will show an eclectic selection of "ma"-Dan miniature masks with important provenance. During the last couple of years, Sebastian Fernandez has been able to assemble a striking group of Dan cultural artifacts from the Liberian hinterland.
Among them are fine “passports” from the collection of Hayden and Odette Walling who visited Liberia between 1952 and 1954, where they were able to collect a group of significant objects with the help of their friend George Harley. Also on exhibit will be noteworthy examples from William Siegmann’s collection, the well-known curator of the Brooklyn Museum, as well as from an Italian private collection.
Zemanek-Münster is showcasing a fine selection of classical pieces of African art.
Among them is a rare and graphic Nyindu „bwami society“ mask, a rare Rio Muni Fang figure from the collection of Irwin Hersey as well as a Kota Reliquiary, once in the collection of Prof. Robert F. Reiff, Vermont.
Also on display will be some expressive objects from Cameroon and the Ivory Coast.
The just-printed catalogue (supplies are limited) for Zemanek's important and tempting June 2nd Tribal Art Auction will be also available.
Jo De Buck will bring us from Brussels his latest acquisitions from old Belgian private collections, strong in Congo material. Jo may have to go home before the Show weekend comes, but if so he will leave his treasures here with us so that you will be able to see them. That's Tribal Togetherness.
