Indonesia - Borneo, Dayak
wood, dark brown patina, with long legs rising from a circular base, the arms crossed in front of the breast, crowned by an oval head with stylized facial features ; squatting, rather flat figure with cap-like headgear, min. dam., small fissures and missing parts, both on base; these statuettes were made by the medicine man to ward off diseases.

Indonesia - Flores
limestone, lichen, cylindrical stone, rounded at the bottom, the limbs worked in flat relief, the legs shown in profile, both arms resting in front of the body, crowned by a neckless head, the facial features hardly recognizable, slightly dam.; deriving from the Manggarai. Such stone figures were displayed in village shrines, presumably depicting the founder of a village "beo" or of a clan "uku".

Papua New Guinea - Golf, Wapo Creek
wood, dark brown patina, black and white pigment, lancet-shaped board, whitened with kaolin and decorated with incised ornaments accentuated by dark painted raised contours, showing a stylized face in the centre, old collection label backside, slightly dam., crack (at the lower rim); these boards, called "gope" or "kwoi" were kept in special ritual houses for men. Every board got the name of an ancestor, and was said to have special power.
