wood, encrusted brown patina, of narrow form with two small horns, a slightly protruding face with a deepened rectangular eye zone, crowned by a sitting female figure with tribe-typical facial features, the forearms originally affixed by nails are missing, min. dam., cracks, signs of abrasion; the carvers of Dogon masks wore their own masks during ritual performances. The costume consisted of fibers covering nearly the whole body. The mask should catch and control the vital force, which could become dangerous when being allowed to roam around.

wood, dark brown patina, residues of white and blue pigments, of oval form with a superimposed apes face, beneath a slightly bulging forehead there is a deepened facial plane with rectangular open worked eyes flanking a small nose, a pointed opened mouth underneath, min. dam., cracks, signs of abrasion, small missing parts, on base, rare ! while the sculptures are carved by the blacksmiths, the masks are carved by young men of the "awa" society. All the masks belong to the "awa" societies and appear during the "dama" burial ceremonies. Those are held every two or three years to honour the deceased. They are depicting animals, objects or humans and are made of plant fibres, fabric or wood.

light brown wood, middle brown partly shiny patina, rising from shortened legs with bulky thighs, a long cylindrical torso with a protruding navel and angular shoulders merging into long free worked arms, the big hands are resting on the hips, a columnar neck is surmounted by an oval head with a broad chin, beneath a slightly bulging forehead with a headband there are circular protruding eyes flanking a bulky nose, an oval mouth and a chin-beard underneath, netlike raised scarification marks on the temples, min. dam., small missing parts (feet, beard), insect caused damage, cracks, on wooden base; according to Ezra the Dogon place their figures on a number of altars devoted to real or mythological ancestors. But only few of this altars could be explored or pictured en detail, nor are there informations how to identify the depicted.

wood, dark brown patina, rising from a circular base, enthroned on a simple stool, a cylindrical upper part of the body with broad shoulders merging into free worked arms, the right forearm raised with a piercing in its hand, crowned by an oval head with drilled pupils and a crested coiffure with neck plait, min. dam., cracks, slight signs of abrasion, small missing parts, on wooden base; figures like these were sacrificed with liquids of burnt plants in order to protect them from vermin. It probably served to protect fertility and to secure the endurance of the community.

light brown wood, brown partly encrusted patina, rising from a high nearly circular base, a long cylindrical upper part of the body with accentuated navel, carved with rings, sloping shoulders merging into raised arms, an oval head with stylized facial features and crested coiffure inbetween, dam., cracks, slight signs of abrasion, small missing parts, on wooden base; the theme of raised arms is related to a number of mythic elements. The "nommo" ancestor lifts his arms up to the sky to beg for rain or forgiveness. He is also represented during his sacrifice, crucified on a tree with his hands above the head.
