terracotta, in form of human heads, min. dam., small missing parts, slight signs of usage, on base; in the 19th and 20th century the smoking of tobacco was very popular in the Grassfield area. To own an elaborate decorated pipe of terracotta or cast metal was the privilege of sovereigns and dignitaries.

Cameroon Grassfields, Bamileke
wood, shiny brown patina, circular base and seat, supported by two standing figures, as well as two figures riding on the back of a leopard, showing tribe-typical facial features and headgears, min. dam., cracks (seat, base, neck, arm), slight signs of abrasion; in the Cameroon Grassfields stools are important regalia of the chief. The open worked base is typical for this region. The leopard embodies certain attributes like quickness, survivability and aggressiveness which were transfered on the king. So he became the most important royal symbol, like an "alter ego" of the king.

Cameroon Grassfields, Widekum
wood, completely coated with leather, a forehead with raised middle ridge and circular pierced eyes below, flanking a curved nose, a big opened mouth, the teeth inset with wooden splinters, cheeks with three tube-shaped projections on either side, pigment remains, dam., jagged leather, missing teeth, signs of abrasion, insect caused damage; this mask is a mixture between a helmet and a face mask. It is deemed to be the only mask of this ethnic group.
