light brown wood, blackened in parts, cylindrical torso with rectangular cavity, crowned by an oval head with delicate facial features and dark coiffure, min. dam., small missing parts (left ear); the Zombo are a small ethnical group living along the Inkisi river banks in the borderland between Zaire and Angola. The instrument is played for ritual masquerade performances as well as for entertainment.

wood, shiny, dark brown patina, cylindrical trunk with scarification marks, crowned by an oval head with delicate facial features and elaborate headgear, min. dam., traces of insect caused damage, sliight signs of abrasion, on wooden base; representing a mature and accomplished Chokwe woman whose body scarification marks testify that she has undergone various forms of female initiation.

wood, honey brown patina, triangular facial plane with long chin, arching brows with bean-shaped narrow slit eyes below, the oval mouth with pierced corners, pointed and linear incised scarification marks, slightly dam., minor missing part at the back of the rim, on metal base; the name of the mask "young woman" refers to a mythic female person, who died young of age. The masquerade should remind of the painful loss.

light brown wood, shiny patina, blackened in parts, scarifications marks on body and face, accentuated by dark paint, crowned by a turban-like coiffure, min. dam., cracks, slight signs of abrasion, on wooden base; the Luena are an ethnic group in the border territory between Angola, Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo. In Angola, they are named after the river of the same name, and in the north-west of Zambia, they are known as Lovale.

wood, black patina, without feet rising from an oval base, the arms enclosing a compact trunk, dam., missing parts (breasts), abrasion, place of repair and crack at the base; the few known sculptures of the Mbundu show maternities, but also pipes, ceremonial staffs and statues, which mostly represent "nana yakoma", the female guardian of the sacred fire.
