Mongolia
wood, shiny patina, composed from various lumbers of different colours, partly stretched with leather, on each side two enamel buttons with flower motifs, front and back decorated with elaborate mother of pearl inlay, min. dam., fissures, traces of abrasion and usage; mongolian saddles are a challenge, not only for amateurs. Deriving from the antique hinduistic mythology, the guardian figures were adopted by the Buddhists. They should admonish the visitors of adequate behaviour when entering the temple. They always show terrifying facial expressions and are provided with strong muscles.
