wood, brown patina, blackened in parts, strong legs supporting a short cylindrical trunk with slit-shaped deepening, the head with the Yaka-typical "snub nose" and voluminous coiffure, min. dam., cracks, slight traces of abrasion, on base; these figures served as containers of protective magical power exercised by the experts against illness, to avenge sorcery and for supernatural assistance in hunting.

wood, middle brown patina, blackened in parts, both sitting on chairs, showing european facial features, carved with uniform, holding a bottle, respectively a cigar, delicate carved, both min. dam., cracks, slight traces of abrasion; masks and figures in Colon style originate from the contact of African native people with the Euopean invaders. They always show typical elements of the local scuptural traditions.

Angola, Lunda

pumpkin, light reddish brown patina, dark brown patina at the bottom, the bulbous calabash corpus serving as container for water, provided with a bamboo smoke tube, decorated with incised abstract figures, on metal base; just like earth and tube pipes the water pipe was already known in Africa before the tobacco came to arrive. The water pipe was brought along by arabian and persian merchants within the first centuries AD. Although lateron they were used for smoking tobacco as well, they predominantly served for the enjoyment of cannabis which is why their distribution was restricted on the area of East-, South- and Central Africa.

wooden cover in leather bag with straps for support, pages of vellum (units of 12 pages sewn and bound with cord material), characters in classic Ethiopian language, so-called "geez", dam., tears and minor missing parts (pages), cracks (book cover), cord material of the binding partly renewed; complete with original envelope: a devotional priest may have carried the sacred document to his believers from one chapel to the other.
