In case of illness they received blood sacrifices (chicken).

Togo, Losso
wood, brown patina, wearing a fur belt, min. dam., traces of abrasion, on metal base; the Losso, also known as Naudeba or Loso, are a group of about 150000 - 200000 people. Ethnologically they are part of the Mole cluster of the Volta people. They are settling between the Kabre, Somba (Sumba), Lamba and Konkomba in central Togo.

238 Ancestor figure "bavong tchitchiri"

Togo, Moba
wood, spotty patina, of abstract form, the neckless spherical head without recognizable facial features, dam., missing parts (forearm), cracks, traces of abrasion; "bavong tchitchiri" figures represent a near ancestor of the head of the family. They were displayed on the family altar "bavong" and should protect the whole family. Only the male descendants of diviners were allowed to carve "tchitchiri" figures. There are three different kinds of "tchitchiri", distinguished by size, representing various contents.

Benin
brass with patina, bulbous form, decorated with a human face, complete with clapper, min. dam., slight traces of corrosion and abrasion; bells like the present were placed on ancestor shrines where they were used to mark the beginning of a ceremony. With the sound of the bell the ancestors were called upon to participate in the ceremonies and to receive the sacrifices.

240 Ceremonial staff "rekade"
Benin, Fon
wood, dark brown patina, crowned with a dog's head with open teeth-revealing mouth, the eyes inset with red glass beads, large parts stud with metal sheet, min. dam., minor missing parts; "rekades" developed from war axes. The "rekade" symbolizes the authority of its owner. The messenger of the king carried the veiled staff on his shoulder, first uncovering it in presence of the receiver of the message, in order to seal the dispatch.
