the Nsapo are a small ethnical group in the southern centre of Zaire. Once they were part of the Songe-Beneki clan, which was pushed from the Songe enclave by Arab traders and their local allies. Thus they were detached from their own traditions and came under new cultural influences. These were not only African, from the Lulua and Luba, but also European. This fact is reflected in the wide variety of sometimes unrelated styles. The Nsapo have no masks, basically they created mother and power figures.
