Collectors and experts of non-European art should take time for our last tribal art auction of this year. Objects of high-quality and first-class provenance, such as Hans Himmelheber, Julius Konietzko, Ernst Heinrich, Hans Hess, Ladislas Segy, Maria Wyss and William Brill as well as objects of the internationally esteemed collectors and dealers, were consigned to the auction house.

But prior to tribal art, the auction starts with its special part 'wunderkammer' that is taking place for the third time and only once a year. Fascinating objects of curiosity and nature will be showcased. What they all have in common is their non-European origin.

2010 was a true exciting auction year - not at least in the tribal art market. Despite sales of high publicity and interest, a narrow market with lost of sales, closing of galleries or temporarily reductions of activities have been registered.

Not so with Zemanek-Münster. The tribal art specialist based in Würzburg has almost realized his result in the passed twelve months to the best-selling preceding years. However, for such a specialized house they keep an eye on general trends but also very sensitive. Besides these, Zemanek-Münster has not only reached but also cemented the target to be an integral part of the international tribal-art market.

For the next tribal art sales, scheduled for March 5 and May 28, the auction house is now open for consignments of ancient art from Africa, Oceania and for Pre-Columbian. Their expert David Zemanek (Master Ethnology) will provide you with a free estimate of your work at auction value.

VIENNA: 12 to 14 January 2011
STUTTGART / TÜBINGEN: 18 January 2011

You may take the opportunity for an appointment on-site.
Private collections have a particular charm, especially when they offer insight into something which is not usually made public. This is certainly the case with Prof. Seeliger’s collection. He was an internationally renowned scientist operating in the field of medical microbiology who was President of the International Union of Microbiological Societies (IUMS) and Vice President of the International Society for Human and Animal Mycology (ISHAM).
His collection was only open to a small circle of interested parties and only a limited number of items were sold and exchanged here (lots 263 to 347).
Without doubt, the fascination of African masks and sculptures arises from its extraordinary and remarkable expressiveness. However, its enhancement in value is a result of its old and documented provenance and – in the stroke of luck – due to stylistic attribution verified to an artist or his workshop.

Both items can be documented by the couple of ancestor figures from the Mangbetu, D.R.
