Kunisada was the most popular and successful draftsman of Japanese color woodblock prints of his time. According to the traditions of the Utagawa School, his main subject was the genre of "kabuki" illustrations and actor portraits. Much of his complete work is made up of "bijin" prints (pictures of beautiful women).
