wood,
The front of this beautiful old shield is covered by a fine but simple grooved pattern, while on the back it is carved with an elaborate pattern of interlocking key designs.
This kind of design is unique in Australia to Karadjeri People of the La Grange Bay Area of the Northeast Coast of Western Australia.
It is also found on the famous pearl shell ornaments called “longka longka” from this area.
