Paul Flora was one of the most famous caricaturists in Austria. The present sheet is one of his very pointed ink drawings. With fine, characteristic strokes he humorously stages surprising and often absurd situations.



Born on 29 June in Glurns/South Tyrol. Moved to North Tyrol in 1927. Painting and etching courses with Max von Esterle & Andreas Einberger (Innsbruck school years). From 1942 studies with Schinnerer & Gulbransson in Munich. First solo exhibition in 1945 in Bern, first book in 1947. Numerous book illustrations in his early years. 1948 member of the Art-Club/Vienna, from 1953 collaboration with Diogenes-Verlag/Zurich. 1957 - 1971 weekly drawings in the Hamburg weekly magazine "Die Zeit". Collaboration with international newspapers such as "The Observer" "The Times Literary Supplement", "Du", "Dagens Nyheter" and many more.
